The Law
"In yesterday's Guardian a young man was fined $7,500 for having sex with a 13 year old girl. The Minister of ********'s son, allegedly had sex in school with a 13 year old girl.He was not charged with statutory rape now were any charges brought against him.He was spanked on the hands and sent home for three days. What a contrast. What we are seeing in this country since the FNM came to power is a duplicity in everything. There is a set of rules for the PLP and a different set of rules for the FNM.There is a set of rules for the poor and a different set of rules for the priviledged. This has to stop.If justice is blind, then the law should be applied equally and fairly to all without fear or favour."
Mr. Knowles, I know that this blog did not exist when the last PLP Minister for Public Works had his issues with being accused of taking very personal things without permission, but recall, if you can, how he was treated, and how due process was thwarted, abused, and interfered with by persons of influence, in broad daylight, and with impunity.
I put it to you Sir, that what you are lamenting has nothing to do with politics exclusively, but power, and who you know, and what your name is. Will you support a revolution to do away with our current system that protects rouges, and where people like me who are broke, do not get justice? Justice costs money, and that is the problem that cannot be overcome under our present system.

Stephen, the think that you and other supporters of the FNM seem to be missing whenever you talk about the incident you referenced here is that in this country, unless I am mistaken, being charged or even questioned about something, does not automatically mean one is guilt of committing an offense.
But it is politically expedient for them to keep referring to these things in the hopes that enough people will believe it to be true and in fact. Now, if you are claiming that justice was hampered in this situation, you are passing judgement on the integrity of the RBPF.
Focus on the point George is making my friend and try not to get side tracked with scoring cheap brownie points for the other side. Didn't you claim you were devil's advocate and not a dyed in red FNM? You must have forgotten?
Stephen,
Mr Ingraham
Mr. Ingrahama' s own liesat the FNM rally Clifford park April 30th 2007has come back full force to hunt him, Little did he know he was talking about himself and his party.
Mr. Ingraham has given away so much Crown land and Prime beach in his Normans cay land give away, as for scandals the private school sex scandal, the cookie monster scandal, the teacher with the young school boys, remember that oneand the million dollar man who quiet poor peoples property, what about Mal Jack..
Speak about violence, the Bahamas has never seen so much as we are experiencing since this Government came into power.
But they did say they were better off, under the PLP Government. what do they have now. trouble and more trouble.
Freeport,
Amazed
Headline on the Zns News today,Morton Salt company,Recent Murder in Nassau, and some other News. Then Finally they mentioned that this was the day the Father of the Nation Died.Dont you think that the death of Sir Lynden ought to be at least headline? In the Freeport News Today the DPM congratulating the new members to the defence force.Where are the rest of my White Bahamain Brothers who ought to have been trained as part of the defence force? In the Freeport news, full coverage for the Birthday of one former Senator, with all the hell breaking loose in the bahamas,The FNM is continuing with its PR bias campaign. Finally ZNS should be ashamed of themselves, maybe tonight they might air something about the life of our Father of the nation.
PLP Admin:
In today's media climate in the Bahamas, I suppose we should be happy they even mentioned it at all.
The Bahamian,
Small Tings
Admin.,
The "acting" DPM has indicated that the wutless FNM will take action against the BCPOU (and the by extension the BCPMU) for their recent demonstrations what are we as a party going to do about it? If you are able to disclose right now.
I hope that the Bahamian people see who is their social safety net after they are wined, dined and gr******ed by the capitalist regime!!!!!!!!!!
Just like an insurance company we have to come to the aid our fellow Bahamians, some of whom rejected us, to clean up after that cat. 5 hurricane called "Trust".And just like Faye made multiple destructive landfalls in Florida so too will "Trust" wreak havoc and destruction on our serene islands for years to come.
Compared to us Florida should be smiling as their season will last until November 30 but we have to endure until 2012.
And if “small tings” can’t wait until HAI comes back to relieve him then he should have never bought the position……..
The Observer,
Re: Duplicitous - M.O.E.
George, I think that operatives of the FNM are calling talk shows to complain about a certain political party that uses "Intellectual" and "big words" so can ya'll take it easy on them. lol.
The Minister of *********** seems to be malfunctioning, on a recent talk show his/her ministry spoke to a "contract" with parents. First of all there is an implied social contract with parents as it is relates to socializing their children and preparing them to be productive residents of this country.
Why do we need to ink a contract that has been in existence from the beginning of time?
With all of the breaches of contracts occurring these days, including the very government that is proposing the "contract", what remedies will be enshrined in therein?
The Minister of *********** or some other Minister should have dealt with the sex scandal expeditiously as it may come back to hurt him/her by 2012. As long as this act is perpetrated on other campuses the Minister will be in the hot seat. But the lesson that comes from this scenario is that the wutless media's cover up of this illegal act will cause that minister locked out of the house of assembly for good after 2012. Pay a little now or a lot later. If the police investigations revealed that no alleged statutory rape occurred then someone should have gone on record stating the same.
This is an offense that can't be mediated away.
Can we as a population request that these "contracts" be retro-active? Will private school administrators also sign the "contracts" to ensure that alleged criminal acts aren't swept under the proverbial carpet?
Lastly, as far as that school vandalism in Grand Bahama is concerned we should have had security at that school 24/7 due to the fact that the police already stated that construction site vandalism is on the increase. When persons construct their houses they hire security firms during the finishing stage.......so why not protect millions of dollars of construction at the school?
The real question is it whether G.B. (right or wrong) is now turning on this government?
Proactive policies is all that we need.............not knee jerk Ministers.
PLP Admin:
Observer, The Minister of ****** (I love that!) is simply borrowing from the Republican playbook in trying to use these fancy terms to try and cover up their lackluster performances. In the 90s, the Republicans, led by Newt Gingrich promised Americans "A Contract with America" whereby if Americans felt their elected officials were not performing up to par and live up to their promises, they should vote them out. The Republicans were voted into control of both the US House and Senate and then went to town on the American people. Only now are they just recovering, having taken back the House and Senate in 2006.
The November elections will likely see a wider margin in the US Senate, where the majority is only one and to pass legislation safely, Democrats need 60 votes. The Contract with America was a sham and Gingrich, Tom Delay, Duke Cunningham and the other leaders of the Republicans from that time have all been taken out of office, some of them doing jail time.
So the Minister of ******** should be more wiser when he seeks to borrow failed ideas from the Republicans of the 90s. Governance has to be about more than slogans and fancy double talk and it is insulting for the good minister to try and pull that one on the Bahamian people.
The standards for governance were raised between the years 2002 and 2007 and the expectations of Bahamians have risen with it as well. What has also increased is the fact that Bahamians are paying closer attention and speaking out now more than ever. Mr. Minister and his contract will go nowhere if there is no real tangible action from his government to affect real meaningful change.
