Father's Day Reflections
Published: Sunday June 17th, 2007
My friends, it has been a while since I've had a moment to sit here and share my thoughts with you. First and foremost, a Happy Fathers Day to all of the daddies, fathers, pops, papas, dads and old men out there.
This is one day I truly look forward to as it is my time to sit back and take into account the job I have done as a father to raise three wonderful children. I take stock regularly because I believe as a father, our jobs are never, ever done. We must remember that no matter how old they are, as long as we are still around, their reference point for everything is us.
I enjoy that role immensely as I watch my sons grow into strong and vibrant young men in their own ways. I enjoy it also as I watch the development of my daughter into a well rounded, talented and committed young Bahamian woman. As any father would be of his children, I am proud of them and I truely appreciate the love and respect and friendship they have and continue to show in return.
I think it is important to note at this point that even though today is supposed to be my day in my home, I cannot ever go through a Father's Day period without celebrating the support and comfort and love I receive from my beautiful wife, Bernadette. Thank you for making me look good in front of the kids.
Now, I must set about pretending that I don't know what gifts they've gotten for me and I must practice looking surprised.
I trust you will keep this secret. Happy Father's Day everyone.
PGC.
